“Christian Reflection on Wisdom”

James 3:11-15 (CEV)

11 Can clean water and dirty water both flow from the same spring?

12 Can a fig tree produce olives or a grapevine produce figs? Does fresh water come from a well full of salt water?

13 Are any of you wise or sensible? Then show it by living right and by being humble and wise in everything you do.

14 But if your heart is full of bitter jealousy and selfishness, don't brag or lie to cover up the truth.

15 That kind of wisdom doesn't come from above. It is earthly and selfish and comes from the devil himself.

The Bible verse above explained that if we want to be wise people in the world, there are two sources of wisdom that we can choose in this world.

Namely:

Wisdom from Above (Heaven) vs Wisdom from Below (World).

The source of wisdom from above is God and His Word.

The source of wisdom from below is human lust and demon.

Note this!!!

The Wise Man will see something also from the source,
 apart from the result.

If something looks good, but the source is not good, of course we will definitely rethink about it again to enjoy the results.

As an example:

1.     If you are offered drinking water.

The water looks clear and clean and is labeled "drinkable", but you are told that it originates from distilled human waste.

Don't you then hesitate to drink it?

2.     Eat at the restaurant.

If you eat at a restaurant, and order (let just say) fried rice. The food is already served to us on the dining table, looks very delicious, the smell of the food is appetizing.

But before eating, you are invited to see the source, namely the kitchen where the food was cooked.

Imagine if the kitchen (* the source of the food) is dirty, garbage is scattered, muddy, lots of mice and cockroaches.

Will you still want to eat and enjoy it?

It should be the same, as for example, you are offered:

·        How to quickly make a lot of money,

·        The easy way to get a match,

·        An easy way to get a job promotion,

·        and so forth

But to earn it, we must do a crime, even more, it is a sinful act, is it good for us to enjoy it?

The world will offer us ways that seem clever. Make it easy. Take a shortcut.

But again, a wise person will see something also from the source, apart from the result.

When we know the source, we know the long-term effects, we know what's best for us; that is the wisdom that comes from above,
