“Christian Reflection on God’s Wonderful Love”

We often hear about someone who was willing to die, giving his own life for others, especially for someone he loved.  We ourselves, if needed, may also be willing to give our lives for someone we love.

Imagine now that you have paper and pen in your hand.

Can you write down the names of the people you are willing to die for? If need be, I am willing to give my life for this person. Are there some names you can write?

Maybe you are willing to die for your spouse, or for your parents, or for your child. Maybe their names are what you wrote down.

Now the next question. Imagine your child. If you are not married, imagine that you already have children. Because it's your child, you must be very fond of him. Right?

The questions now:

If necessary, are you willing to GIVE YOUR CHILDREN to die, to be sacrifices to save others?

If you were willing, you were willing to give your own life to save others. Can you be willing to give your child's life to die to save someone else's life?

It's more difficult, right? Or is it easier?

If our child is kidnapped, we will say, "Don't kidnap my child, just take me instead."

If our child is going to be killed, we will plead, "Don't kill my child, let ,my child go, just take my life instead".

Right?

What about God? Let's read from John 3:16 (KJV).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God's Word teaches us that God's blessings are conditional, but God's love is unconditional. Amen? God gave us heaven, salvation, as a gift. Unconditional.

In this world where nothing is free, God still gives something that is priceless unconditionally, completely free.

Amazing our Lord Jesus. Amen?

But the deeper meaning of the word "gave" (di,dwmi) is "GIVE UP" = "to give up because of demand".  What demands? Our sins demand us to death, to destruction. And because God doesn't want us to die from destruction, God is willing to sacrifice His child to save us from destruction.

As we discussed earlier: it is MORE TOUGH for us to want to sacrifice our children to save others. It's easier to sacrifice ourselves to save others. Right?

Then? Why would God? John 3:16 says "Because the love of God is so great."

God's love is greater. Very big for us. Because that's HE is WILLING. Although VERY DIFFICULT, he is willing.

Max Lucado: God would GIVE UP his only son, before He’d ever give up on you (John 3:16).

What a Great Loving God we have! amen?

How to reply? How can we repay God's great love?

We must always REMEMBER God's love.

Simple isn’t it? Respond to God's great love by living, just remembering, don't forget, God's love that has been so great.

Because when we forget God's love, we waste God's love.

The reality is: God’s people often FORGET their God, but God NEVER FORGETS them.

God's children often forget their God, but God NEVER forgets them.

When do we forget God's love?

# 1 WHEN WE GIVE UP

When we see problems and give up, we forget God's great love.

  • When we give up our marriage, and think of divorce,
  • When we give up on educating our children,
  • When we give up doing what is right, because everyone else is doing wrong,
  • When we give up and think about suicide

That is some examples of when we forget God's great love.

Romans 8:32 (CEV)

God did not keep back his own Son, but he gave him for us. If God did this, won't he freely give us everything else?

Everything we need so that we don't give up, God will definitely give it to us.  Amen?

·        Strength to endure God will definitely give. Amen?

·        The wisdom we need, God will definitely give it. Amen?

·        The courage we need, God will give. Amen?

·        Everything we need, God WILL SURE GIVE YOU. Amen?

If His own son is given by God to us, than everything else is can be given by God.

Let us be Peter (who keeps REMEMBER) and not be Judas Iscariot (who FORGETS God's love).

What is the difference between Judas and Peter?

Judas: Erroneously, repented, then gave up and hanged himself (Matthew 27: 3-5).  Why did he give up? Because He forgot that God's love was very great.

Peter: Err, regret, admit mistakes, and fight one step at a time. He REMEMBER that God's love is great and with that, HE dared to meet the Lord Jesus, even though He was very ashamed.

Let us be just like Peter who still REMEMBER God's love and doesn't give up.  Don't be a Judas who gives up.

#2 WHEN WE RESIGN ourselves because we feel unworthy

I met some friends who were no longer attending church, because they felt they didn't deserve to go to church anymore. He felt that he had committed too many sins and mistakes, so that he felt he was no longer worthy to meet God in church. Shame on meeting God. Wow!

Has anyone ever felt that way?

The truth is that none of us is worthy, no one in this room is worthy to receive God's love. Right? But we still accept it too.

Nothing deserves to be accepted by God, but God makes us worthy.

No one is worthy to serve God, but we are qualified to serve.  Why? Because of God's grace alone. Not because we are great, but because of grace.

No one deserves to be loved by God and then given heaven as a gift, but God makes us worthy.

Maybe we ask, is there an end to God's patience so that he no longer wants to love us?

·        If we ask Peter the liar, he will answer none.

·        We ask King David the adulterer, he will answer none.

·        We ask Paul the murderer, he will also answer none.

Because it doesn't exist.

God loves us not because we are worthy of love, but because He chooses to love us.

Do you not believe it?

Roman  5:8

But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.

Again, God's love is unconditional. Lord Jesus did not say, let's live righteously, then I will save you. God's Word says, "While we were still sinners" God chose to save us, for only one reason. Because He loves us.

So, remember God's love.

If someone says, You are not worthy, let's resign from the ministry,

If someone says, you are not worthy, let's not go to church anymore,

If there is a voice that says, why read the Bible, during your quiet time, you

are not worthy.

= It's not God voice.

# 3 WHEN WE ARE STILL ENJOYING SIN

The truth is, until we get to heaven, as long as we are still on earth, we will still continue to fall into sin. Gradually we will learn to be victorious over sin. But even when we fall, we shouldn't enjoy it.

Because enjoying sin = forgetting God's great love, which is holy, and very precious.

Colossians 3:5-10

5     Don't be controlled by your body. Kill every desire for the wrong kind of sex. Don't be immoral or indecent or have evil thoughts. Don't be greedy, which is the same as worshiping idols.

6     God is angry with people who disobey him by doing these things.

7     And that is exactly what you did, when you lived among people who behaved in this way.

8     But now you must stop doing such things. You must quit being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others.

9     And stop lying to each other. You have given up your old way of life with its habits.

10   Each of you is now a new person. You are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him better.

It is time for us to stop enjoying sin, keep in mind the great love of the Lord Jesus, by being willing to put off the old man and put on the new man.

How to repay God's great love?

Here's How = Keep REMEMBER God's love!

Not giving up, not resigning, not enjoying sin anymore.
