The Power of Vision
(Reflection from Proverb 29:18)
"Reflection on Vision”
Many people can start something, but not many can finish it well.
Just imagine like in a race, whether it's running, car racing, and so on. Many can get to the starting line, but not many can cross the finish line as champions. Right?
If you are currently a new student, who is just about to start college, assume that you are already at the starting line.
But what is the finish? Do you just want to graduate from college?
The finish is of course not just finishing college, but more than that.
College is a new chapter in your life that is completely different from the previous ones.
If you just graduated from kindergarten, your goal is still simple, which is where you want to go to? Likewise graduating from elementary school, to which junior high school? Graduated from junior high school, to which high school? And graduated from high school, what college and where to?
But when you start college, the finish is not just a matter of finishing college. It's not just a matter of graduation. But it is more than that.
When you started, have you thought about your finish now?
The finish God wants for His children is (Jeremiah 29:11) to have a hopeful future.
Again, lots of people can start, but not many people finish well.
God doesn't just want you to just start, as an example starting college and just finish college. God wants you to be able to finish college well, so that you can make it an asset to have a hopeful future.
And for that, for you to have a hopeful future, you need to have a VISION.
What is a vision? Why is vision important?
Amsal 29:18 (KJV)
Where there is no vision, the people perish:
# 1 Definition of Vision
What is a vision?
Vision is a picture of the future. Vision is what you see with your eyes closed. Vision is your dream.
Did you know that God gave us two kinds of eyes?
Physically we see with our eyes, but God also gives us the ability to see with the heart, namely: visions, dreams.
God gave us not just one, but two types of eyes. Not only this pair of physical eyes, but also a spiritual eye in our heart.
Why?
Because God truly knows, there will be times when our physical eyes are blocked by something. One day our physical eyes can be blocked by something, whether it's a wall, whether it's a problem, and at times like that, when we can't see ahead, we will lose our direction and enthusiasm for life.
When that time comes, we often need to close our physical eyes and start seeing with our spiritual eyes.
As there is a saying: “Sometimes I see better with my eyes closed.” (unknown)
Hellen Keller, a man who was blind and deaf, later became famous as someone who fought for the disabled; once said like this:
“What's worse than someone who can't see?
That is, people who don't have vision, people who don't have dreams! "
So have a vision, dream, imagine.
After all, everything we see is the result of one's imagination in the past.
Examples:
telephone, handphone, airplane, computer, even table and chairs.
In the past, everyone who had these ideas was considered stupid or just imagining it. But now they do exist.
# 2 Function of Vision
God made us have the ability to dream, have visions, imagine. So that we have the ability not to focus on our situation today, but can travel to the future with our imagination.
Such a picture of the future is what allows us to survive and keep moving to reach our finish line.
Vision will give us direction, passion and purpose in life.
Vision is like the headlights of a car that you are running in dense darkness or fog.
Have you ever walked by car in the dark, or in the fog? We use lights in situations such as to be able to move forward safely.
It is very dangerous if we do not have or do not use lights in such situations. We do not know whether there is another car ahead or a ravine, or if there are other dangers ahead.
Without having a vision, your life will be directionless, without seeing a finish, and will only be lived carelessly.
We,children of God, must be different. Must have something better.
# 3 Living the Vision
The greatest challenge of children of God should not be between choosing good and bad, but between good and best.
It should be easy for a child of God to know that this is wrong, or this is right.
- Cheating is wrong, honesty is right.
- Being lazy is wrong, being diligent is right.
- Free sex is wrong, the holiness of life is right.
I hope all of us can learn easily to choose between right and wrong.
And we will move up the class to the next challenge, which is choosing between the good and the best.
Learn to do excellence in our life. Because excellent blessing is intended for people who live in an excellent manner.
In order to get through this biggest challenge, and not just learn about right and wrong, it is important to always make God number 1 in your life.
How? "Make Jesus is always number 1, myself is second"
- Don't spare time for God, but make time for God.
- Committed to whenever and wherever, God's values always apply.
- Make God's values about right and wrong into our values in our lives every day.
- Glorify God with an excellent life.
- Have a better life than others, a more beautiful one, which transcends the quality of life of others.
Have a Vision. Have a character that always puts God first. So in God's grace, our finish will be achieved well.
Jesus bless us all.
